This Past Decade in Review

This past decade has seen a rise and fall of many new trends and even fads in music, film, social media, and every other aspect of life.

Music
One thing that has been revitalized during this past decade are boybands. One Direction itself could be considered the pop industry for the first half of the decade. Whether or not the boybands that rose and fell during this past decade were a product of the stereotypical bubblegum pop boybands is under each individual's discretion. Rap music has also found its dominance in this past decade developing a subculture of Soundcloud rappers.

Television
Although Netflix was established before the start of the decade, the Netflix original series was created in 2013. Online accessibility has strengthened television through the years and only continues to strengthen streaming and cause a decline in cable. Many shows such as Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad have created large scale fandoms.

Social Media
Social Media can sum of the 2010s in whole. Influencer culture has taken over many apps, one of the most popular being Instagram. Vine being on the products of the 2010s that rose and then fell. However, a similar app, Tik Tok is increasing with popularity. These platforms that once started as entertainment and for social purposes, have grown into corporate usage through the use of data collection and personalized advertising.

Films
The film scene was a decade of reboots and mega franchises with a few social movements such as the #metoo. The box offices were dominated consistently by the superhero genre with Avengers being the highest grossing movie of all time with other very successful movies such as Spiderman: Homecoming and the Black Panther. With mass consumerism, the decade was also represented by sequels and remakes with experiential filmmaking.
